Changed Ways of Working in the New Normal

One of the important issues in our lives after the pandemic was the ways of working. Although we progressed intensively in distance working with the bans in the first stage, as the effects of the pandemic decreased, different ways of working such as "hybrid" working started to be discussed in addition to the option of working from the office.

Many companies have not yet chosen the "right" method. The ideal way of working varies according to many factors such as need, sector, size. All methods have advantages and disadvantages for both the company and the employees. For example, although advantages such as the need for less office space, autonomy, flexible time management come into our lives with distance working, we can also feel the negative effects such as the difficulty of team management, isolation, communication problems within the team, and decreased belonging. We started to feel the negative effects of distance working, which excited us all in the first step, in the long run. For this reason, many companies are still thinking about the way they work. Although working from the office is a subject of debate due to the time spent on the road and the effect of this situation on performance, it seems to be very advantageous due to face-to-face communication and especially new graduates being able to see different units and areas. Although the hybrid working model seems to be in the middle of two different ends, there are many sectors where this working model is not suitable. Sectors such as production and health could not implement different working models even during the pandemic period.

Finding the balance, choosing the most "right" method will require detailed analyses based on corporate culture, business conditions, sector, team and managers. In this process, the function of the Human Resources Function stands at a very critical point. Companies that are agile in determining new policies other than traditional processes and can develop strategies for the welfare of employees will be more successful.
